My Insanity Workout Journey
I started Insanity on January 12th of 2013, and I completed it on March 15th of 2013. I had gotten fed-up with being overweight, depressed, and tired all the time. Like many people, I had made a New Year’s resolution to get in shape in 2013. After doing a lot of online research, I decided that Beachbody’s Insanity Workout Program would be the beginning of my fitness journey and the tool top meeting my resolution.
During my research before starting the Insanity workout program, I was unable to find the specific information that I was looking for. I wanted to see Insanity through the eyes of someone that had completed it. Not as a big-picture ending, but as a low level and very specific view of the program on a daily basis. I wanted to know what it was like for someone to go through the Insanity workout program while working a very demanding job and trying to complete a master’s degree. I found a lot of big-picture reviews about how much people loved the program, but I never found a complete daily review of the program.
Because I was unable to find a completed daily review of Insanity, and I was sure that others would like to see the same thing, I decided that I would try the Insanity workout program and use this blog to keep a daily journal of my experience with the program. Each day I completed the workout, I posted an entry in this blog, explained my thoughts of the workout and how it made me feel.
I later found this to also serve as a huge benefit to me. The Insanity workout program is very hard. It is without question, the hardest exercise regimen I have ever experienced. Because of Insanity’s difficulty, a great deal of support and motivation is needed. I found that posting my daily Insanity workout review served as a great motivational tool. This motivation was based on accountability. I felt that others were expecting me to complete my Insanity workout and to share my experience each day. This created a since of accountability to my viewers, thus creating a large amount of motivation to complete my day Insanity workouts.

What is the Insanity Workout Program?
This is a spectacular question, and may be the entire reason that you arrived at this page. What is Insanity, really? Insanity is marketed by Beachbody as a 60 day “Max Interval” training and cardio conditioning workout program that is guaranteed to get you in the best shape of your life. What exactly does this mean? Is Insanity a magical program that will get me ripped in 60 days? The honest answer to these questions is, Insanity is not magic and it is not easy, and the results only come to those that can handle an intense level of physical work.
In reality, the Insanity workout program is a 63 day (9 week) program that will kick your but 6 days each week using one of the 10 different workouts that are included in the program. That’s 55 days of intense Insanity over a period of 63 days.
Insanity is not just a workout; a large part of the program is the foot that you use to fuel your body. The Insanity workout program comes with a nutrition plan that can be easily followed. I personally did not follow the nutrition plan. This is only because I do not have a problem eating the same thing every day (just one of the many things that make me weird). The food that I ate could all be considered worth of the Insanity nutrition plan, but I did not get any of my recipes from the Insanity nutrition plan guide. I think that the best way to explain the Insanity nutrition plan is that is consists of food that contain large amounts of protein, moderate amounts of carbs, and minimal amounts of fat. It is your typical meat and veggie diet, with a spin on the recipes that make it relishes.
I personally do not like cooking. This is the main reason that I did not follow the nutrition plan. I like to cook my meals in bulk, each Sunday and then separate them into Tupperware, in daily portions to be eaten throughout the week. This has worked very well for me, and it is extremely easy for people like me (Those that do not have time or the desire to prepare meals each day.) However, for those that need a variety of different foods in their life, the insanity nutrition plan contains a lot of different recipes that align with a verity of goals.

Does the Insanity Workout Program Work?
Like with all workout programs, the level of your results will be based on the level of effort that you put into the program and the food that you put in your body. If you are willing to put in the work, you will see amazing results. Though my results could not be classified as amazing, I feel that they are very respectable when considering my initial level of fitness and my condition at the end of the Insanity workout program.
The Insanity workout program was not just about weight loss for me, it was about starting to lead a healthier lifestyle. Looking over the following table, I feel like these numbers represent an improvement in both my physical appearance as well as my health.
My Insanity Before and After Measurements
|Measurement:||Before Insanity:||After Insanity:|
|Resting Heart Rate||68 bpm||55 bpm|
|Body Fat %||24.7%||19.8%|
Looking at the numbers above, it might be intimidating to think that I lost less than 13 pounds during the Insanity workout Program, at least as it is shown on the scale. But my weight alone cannot truly represent my results. I also lost just under 17 inches of fat from all around my body. My Body Fat Percentage decreased from 24.7 to 19.8. And my resting heart rate dropped by 13 beats per minute! This is a huge increase in my cardiovascular health. I also gained a large amount of strength and muscle.
My Insanity Fit Test Results
The above numbers represent an improvement in my health and wellness. However, the Insanity workout program also dramatically increased my fitness level. The following table shows my dramatic increase from before and after in multiple Insanity exercises.
|Insanity Exercise:||Fit Test 1||Fit Test 2||Fit Test 3||Fit Test 4||Fit Test 5|
|Low Plank Oblique:||23||40||56||43||62|
My Insanity Before & After Pictures
Overall Opinion of the Program
I would have to say that my overall opinion of the Insanity workout program would be that it is excellent. Personally, I am not the biggest fan of cardio style workouts. Heck, until starting Insanity I wasn’t a fan of working out in general. However, Beachbody has done a wonderful job at making the Insanity workout program fun. The exercises variate enough that you do not fill like you are doing the same thing each day, and Shaun T is easy to deal with and can be somewhat of a joker. If you are willing put in the work, your body cannot help but to get into better shape. I would highly recommend the Insanity Challenge to anyone that is looking to loose weight and increase their overall health.
